In partnership with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the Township of Oro-Medonte Traffic Safety Advisory Committee (TSAC) has launched a Township-wide crowd sourced “Slow Down For Us” awareness campaign focused on speed reduction, through the use of a digital social media filter on Instragram. The primary goal of the campaign is to change driver behaviour through showcasing the impact of speeding on the community.
All Township residents are encouraged to download the “Slow Down For Us” filter, take a photo with a personal message or create a video, and share the filter on their own social media platforms using hashtag #slowdownforus. Participants of the campaign have the option to submit photo’s directly to the Township. Township staff will create a collage of images submitted and promote/share through the Township’s social media channels.
On behalf of Councillor David Clark, Chair of the TSAC, committee members, members of Council, and Township staff, Mayor Greenlaw commented that “initiation of the Slow Down For Us campaign is a key area of focus for the TSAC, and a priority of Oro-Medonte Council. We are very pleased to partner with the OPP on this extremely important initiative, and grateful for their support. With participation from the Oro-Medonte community while working in collaboration with the OPP, together, we will raise awareness about the critical importance of responsible driving habits, and prioritizing safety over speed. I personally encourage all Oro-Medonte residents to be active participants in the campaign and thank you for taking part.”
