Outdoor Recreation

The Townships of Oro-Medonte wants both residents and visitors alike to utilize our beautiful Parks, Trails, Playgrounds and Outdoor Spaces. The Township aims to strengthen our sense of community through programs, services, parks, and facilities, promoting healthy lifestyles and connection.

Social Recreation and Cultural Programs​​

In 2023, the Township of Oro-Medonte completed its Parks and Recreation Master Plan. The objective of the Parks and Recreation master plan is to provide staff, Council and the community with a strategic plan that will guide future actions and how to best meet community needs for parks, recreation, and related activities (arts, culture and leisure) now and in the future. In addition to this overarching objective, the Master Plan also:

  • Identified capital project priorities.
  • Provide the framework to optimize service delivery (operations, partnerships, funding allocations, etc.)
  • Guides asset management practices
  • Provide Council and administration with a point of reference that can help inform decision making and ensure these decisions are data driven and transparent.​

The Township of Oro-Medonte offers many beautiful scenic trails that can be used for many purposes. The Township of Oro-Medonte maintains both the Rail Trail and the Bidwell Community Trail.

Court Sports

The Township of Oro-Medonte has one beautiful, designated Tennis location (3375 4 Line N, Shanty Bay). Residents wanting to use the space have the option to join the Oro-Medonte Tennis Club or pay for an Access Pass (code).

If you are interested in playing tennis within the Township, there are 2​ options.

  1. Access Pass

You may buy a township Access Pass, which simply grants access to the courts during public court times (see schedule below).

If you would like to purchase a Township Access Pass, please visit: oro-medonte.perfectmind.com. This is a newer portal, so if you haven't already created an account, you will be required to create an account prior to purchasing an Access Pass.  Once logged into the portal, click on the “Tennis" tab at the top, and select "Access Pass" from the dropdown menu to make your purchase.

If you prefer not to purchase online, please contact the Community Services department at 705-487-2171 ext. 2133 and staff will confirm alternative purchase methods.​

Access Pass Details:

  • Price is $25.00 per household member.
  • Courts open for the season on Monday, April 22, 2024 and close after Thanksgiving weekend

Township Access Passes only grants access to the courts during public times. The tennis court schedule provides additional information.

  1. Oro-Medonte Tennis Club Membership​

You may opt to purchase an Oro-Medonte Tennis Club membership. The OMTC is managed by a dedicated volunteer executive committee and community-minded club members.  Their objective is to foster an atmosphere that caters to all playing levels and every age group. Club membership fees and program prices are reasonable to ensure OMTC is accessible to all members of our community. Being a member of the OMTC offers many benefits such as:

  • Welcoming All Levels of Players
  • 2 Outdoor Courts from May - October
  • Access to Online Court Booking System - Court booking privileges up to 7 days in advance (Avoid the non-member wait for an open court)
  • Free Rating System – Points to monitor your tennis progress
  • Find an OMTC hitting partner
  • OTA – Ontario Tennis Association Membership - Member Discounts
  • OMTC Membership fees include Ontario Tennis Association membership dues
  • Ball Machine Membership - Only $30/season (this helps offset the cost of the required tennis balls) for Adult Members     
  • Monthly Social Nights
  • Organized Mixed Doubles
  • OMTC - Club Events
  • Fun social tournaments for Singles/Doubles players

As mentioned above, the Club offers round robins, weekly house league, lessons and clinics, summer camps and other social events from May until October.  Please note, you do not need to be a member to sign up for lessons through the Club.

The Township of Oro-Medonte recognizes the growing need for designated Pickleball space.  Currently, the Township has painted Pickleball Courts on several multi-purpose pads.

Each location is equipped with a lockable space that contains community Pickleball net(s) for the public to use and store safely, free of charge. For more information on how to access these nets or to report and issue with the equipment/space, please contact Courtney Chianelli at cchianelli@oro-medonte.ca.

Horseshoe Valley Pickleball Club

The Horseshoe Valley Pickleball Club (HVPB) is a privately run group based out of the Horseshoe Valley Memorial Park (3387 Line 4 North).  They offer a membership that is open to anyone who has completed the necessary Club registration process.

To ensure equitable access to both the Club and the public please review the schedule below outlining “Public” (non-member) court space and times as well as “HVPB” court space and times.

Please note: The public can access the available court spaces for their own recreation activities (example: basketball, chalk, bike riding, pickleball etc.). You do not need to be a member of the HVPB club to utilize the community nets on the designated public court times/space. All are welcome to participate in their choice of recreational activity during the “Public” time/courts. Users are encouraged to be respectful to those waiting to use the courts and those already on the courts, at all times.

Ontario Parks Pass

Participate in the Ontario Parks Pass Lending Program!

The Ontario Parks Pass is a borrowable vehicle permit that provides day use access to over 100 provincial parks for all occupants in your vehicle.

The day use permit lending program may run from January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2024 which aligns with the valid dates of the day use vehicle permits supplied. These permits will provide complimentary day use access for one vehicle and its occupants at more than 100 provincial parks where fees are normally charged.

Please note: At the time of your loan, a credit card must be provided by the patron in case of a lost or stolen pass.

The length of the loan term is a maximum of 1-week per loan per patron and a maximum of one loan per patron per year.

If the Ontario Parks pass is not returned or is lost, the Township of Oro-Medonte has the right to charge the patron the full cost of $99.00+HST for the Annual Vehicle Permit replacement.
