OPP Detachment Boards oversee how policing is provided in the local communities. These Boards are representative of the municipalities they serve and work to ensure their communities receive appropriate policing to meet the needs of its residents, businesses and visitors. Specifically, the role of the Couchiching OPP Detachment Board is as follows:
- Consult with the Commissioner regarding the selection of a Detachment Commander and otherwise participate in the selection of the Detachment Commander;
- Determine objectives and priorities for the Detachment, consistent with the strategic plan prepared by the Minister, following consultation with the Detachment Commander;
- Advise the Detachment Commander with respect to policing provided by the Detachment;
- Monitor performance of the Detachment Commander;
- Review reports from the Detachment Commander regarding policing provided by the Detachment; and
- Provide an annual report to the municipality by June 30th in each year regarding policing provided by the Detachment in the municipality.
