Township of Oro-Medonte reminding residents of alternative payment methods due to Canada Post strike and information regarding Notice of Public Hearings

Due to the current Canada Post strike, please note disruption to mail service is likely. Please see How to Pay Your Tax & Utility Bills | Township of Oro-Medonte to enroll in the Township’s pre-authorized payment program, information regarding  property tax and water payment due dates, and for details regarding payment options for tax and water bills including:

  • Pre-authorized payment plans
  • Online banking or telephone banking
  • At financial institutions 
  • By credit card
  • In-person or drop-box 
  • paysimply.ca (note: in-person at a post office using cash or debit currently not available due to Canada Post strike)

Please contact the Finance department at 705-487-2171 to determine the balance on your account.

Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) payment options are also available for vendors. If you are expecting a mailed cheque from the Township, please contact us to make arrangements for EFT payments. The Township is unable to make exceptions for late payments sent by mail.

Policing

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) provides policing service for the Township of Oro-Medonte.  In an emergency, call 911.

Couchiching OPP Detachment Board

As a result of the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019 (CSPA), the Couchiching OPP Detachment Board was formed representing the City of Orillia and Townships of Oro-Medonte, Ramara and Severn and is comprised of 10 members as follows:

  • One elected representative appointed from each municipality,
  • One community representative appointed from each municipality, and
  • Two provincial representatives appointed by the Lieutenant Governor in Council.

The term of office for Council appointees is concurrent with the Term of Council.

OPP Detachment Boards oversee how policing is provided in the local communities.  These Boards are representative of the municipalities they serve and work to ensure their communities receive appropriate policing to meet the needs of its residents, businesses and visitors.  Specifically, the role of the Couchiching OPP Detachment Board is as follows:

  • Consult with the Commissioner regarding the selection of a Detachment Commander and otherwise participate in the selection of the Detachment Commander;
  • Determine objectives and priorities for the Detachment, consistent with the strategic plan prepared by the Minister, following consultation with the Detachment Commander;
  • Advise the Detachment Commander with respect to policing provided by the Detachment;
  • Monitor performance of the Detachment Commander;
  • Review reports from the Detachment Commander regarding policing provided by the Detachment; and
  • Provide an annual report to the municipality by June 30th in each year regarding policing provided by the Detachment in the municipality.

The meetings of the Couchiching OPP Detachment Board are open to the public unless dealing with matters that warrant being held in a Closed/Confidential manner.
